John Gartner posted on the Wired Magazine blog network and cited the National Biodiesel Board statistics in pointing out that 11 states encourage biodiesel use in by either legislating percentage used or reducing taxes on biodiesel. States promoting biodiesel include Florida, Connecticut, Missouri, California, Oregon, Mississippi, Arkansas, Nebraska, Montana, Tennessee and New Mexico. Some are considering raising the amount of biodiesel blended from two to five percent, while others may eliminate or reduce the fuel tax on biodiesel. How long before Ohio joins the list?

Soyoil futures likely to impact biodiesel prices
Up, up and up ... that looks like the trend for our fuel this summer ... what do you think (poll)?
Earthrace headed for repairs in Acapulco

After being detained 10 days in Guatemala, Pete Bethune and the crew of Earthrace have been release after a settlement with the families of Guatemalan fishing boat they struck. The biodiesel Cummins engined powered boat is making it way to Acapulco where they will make repairs for a second start in a round the world record attempt.
Sadly the accident left on fisherman dead and one injured, but after a civil settlement and some delay, a judge release them ruling the incident an accident and they were released from criminal charges.

Biofuel prices on the rise along with ULSD

Topped off with B20 at my regular Mt. Gilead Sunoco biofuels station today and can’t help but grumble as the prices continue to go up. ULSD was selling most stations for about $2.64 on my way north and saw them a little lower in northeast Ohio. Nevertheless, I’m not going to complain too much knowing my biodiesel purchases circulate dollars in the U.S. and probably support Ohio farmers. (preferable to Venezuela or the Middle East IMHO)
Earthrace: a light at the end of the tunnel

The situation is looking better for the Earthrace project and crew stuck in Guatemala after the accident which kill one fisherman and severely injured another. The insurance company for Earthrace settled up with the families of the fisherman, are paying the medical cost for the injured fellow and buying the families a new boat, etc -- no guilt admitted on Earthrace's part. (according to information the fishing skiff was not 'night' lighted properly) The captain, Pete Bethune, felt good that the less fortunate were not going to suffer further loss. According to the local officials, accidents happen regularly but rarely does anyone lend assistance or admit hitting the boats ... the honorable guys on Earthrace have done everything right.
Earthrace tragedy: Collision at sea
Those of you who have been following Earthrace and looking for updates like me, might have wondered what’s happening? (no updates for several day until today) I’ve noted that they suffered problems with an engine and would be coming in for repairs, but never suspected the news would be so grim. Unfortunately on March 18 while the boat was traveling north off the coast of Guatemala, they struck a 26 foot fishing skiff with 3 men on board. Sadly one man on the fishing skiff was killed and another seriously injured. It is a terrible tragedy and best explained by the Captain … Skipper Pete Bethune. I’ll attach the most recent three (b)log entries below which detail the ordeal. (more here)
Cummins Inc. announces B20 approval
How long until VWoA gives the okay to higher percentage biodiesel now that Cummins is giving the nod to B20?
